Recon Weather Support

INTO THE STORM. BEYOND THE FORECAST.

In an emergency, call your local emergency number. Recon Weather is not an emergency service. Always follow the National Weather Service and your local emergency management, and keep an independent alert source such as a NOAA weather radio.

Get in touch

Email [email protected]. One person reads that address, so tell us what phone you are on, what version the app says under Settings, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot helps more than a description.

You can also send feedback from inside the app: Menu → More → Feedback & Problems. That route carries your app version and device automatically, so it saves you a paragraph.

Common questions

Warnings are not reaching me.

Two settings decide this, and both have to be on. Under Notifications, check the alert types you want are switched on. Then check iOS Settings → Recon Weather → Location is set to Always: without it, warnings stop following you the moment you leave the app. Warnings are sent as time-sensitive, so they cut through Focus, but they do not override the ringer switch or Do Not Disturb.

Someone posted something they should not have.

Use Report on the message or the storm report, and Block to stop seeing that person. Reports go to our moderators. If it is urgent or involves a threat to someone, email us directly.

I sent a storm report and the type was changed.

That is normal and intended. Trained staff correct a classification before a report reaches the map, so you never have to be sure you identified something correctly. Send what you saw.

The radar looks out of date or will not load.

Pull to refresh, then check your connection. Radar tiles are large and a weak mobile signal shows as a loop that will not advance. If it persists on good signal, tell us which product and roughly when.

Delete my account.

In the app: your account screen, then Delete Account. It removes your profile and signs out every device. If you cannot get in to do it, email us from the address on the account.

Data sources

Observations, warnings, outlooks and models come from the National Weather Service, NOAA, the Storm Prediction Center, the Weather Prediction Center, the National Hurricane Center and Environment and Climate Change Canada, alongside our own weather balloons, wind probes and field team. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency.

About us

Recon Weather is a community-driven storm research mission - volunteer chasers, meteorologists, forecasters and engineers who live-stream and report severe weather, and put balloons and probes into storms to pull data back out of them. Built and funded independently. No ad networks, no data brokers.
